Support The Peter Adair Rebellion
Peter Adair believed that making people visible was a radical act. He spent his life doing it for others. This film turns the camera toward him.
Why It Matters
The equality and inclusion many Americans experience today have deep roots in the struggles of earlier generations. Peter was part of a movement that helped create a world where many lesbians and gay men could live more openly and, eventually, marry. This film traces how those changes came about, what they meant to the people who lived through them, and how a once-isolated population came to build a community. Peter's own story offers more than history. It brings viewers close to the human experience of moving from isolation to connection, and of finding community in the face of crisis.
San Francisco has been at the center of some of the most significant social movements of the last fifty years. If you lived this history, you know why it needs to be told. Help us bring it to those who didn't, and remind the country what a difference the people in this city have made.
At a time when LGBTQ lives and rights are again the subject of public debate, this history offers essential perspective. Telling it requires support now.
Where the Film Stands
The work-in-progress reel was produced using existing archival material and represents just ten minutes of the final hour-long film. The vision for the complete film is clear, and the team that will bring it to life is in place.
What's needed now is funding to shoot the new interviews that will allow us to assemble a rough cut of the complete story.
We are currently seeking donors to contribute a total of $35,000 toward the next phase of production: two days of key interviews. This will lay the foundation for larger institutional financing from public television and granting organizations.
Peter spent his life proving that visibility changes everything. By helping bring his story to millions of others, you can play an essential role in the same work.
